LE BINÔME

LE BINÔME

SPACIAL CREATIVE PERCUSSIVE MACHINE

BINOME has a single, unique goal: to push its owner's creativity into unconventional territories through straightforward functions! !

BINOME's main function is to create percussive sounds, with the internal oscillator or by using external sound or a noise source like BOUCAN and shaping it with the EQ and filter.

It can also be used as a dual dynamic AD or ASR envelope generator, with special custom shapes that can be changed from exponential to logarithmic and with voltage control over the amplitude ( LEVEL ) and its length ( DECAY ).

The main input is connected to the EQ and the filter, then splits in 2 signals represented by channel A and B.

The filter is a strange one, let’s say that it acts more as a resonator than a classic filter. It will color and give the missing natural ringing to your drums when the resonance is lifted! You can choose between 2 modes:  Highpass and Bandpass.

As it can auto oscillate, you can use it as a VCO, or as a fundamental sound source to make bass drums, toms or FM percussions, oh ohhh and you can add one more external sound source per channel as they both have their own input.

Indeed, both channels are totally independent with their own post filter input and controls, they can interact dynamically by using the center switch to CHOKE or FADE channel A with channel B.

With the odd configuration that LE BINOME offers, you can achieve some really interesting spattial results, like turning any mono VCO into a full stereo synth voice, rotating its sounds by using modulation from PARESSEUX or any cohesive or chaotic CV on DECAY and LEVEL of both channels. Same technique works with any audio signal, for example, in a stereo topology, LEVEL can also be seen as a panning function…these are just examples, there are so many possibilities in a yet straightforward and versatile interface that encourages exploration and experimentation…you will always find something new to do !

Creativity has no limits, LE BINOME has a lot to offer in any kind of situation and not only when it’s about percussion!

  • QUOTE :

    "FRIENDSHIP GOALS!"

  • CONTROLS :

    • LEVEL : ( Channel A / B )

Adjusts the level of the audio and amplitude of the envelope output.

    • BASS:

Decrease or increase the amount of low frequencies of the audio passing through the main input.

    • REZ :

Adjust the intensity of the resonance and can be pushed to auto oscillation.

    • AIR :

Decrease or increase the amount of high frequencies of the audio passing through the main input.

    • DECAY : ( Channel A / B )

Adjusts the length of the envelope of the respective channel, from sharp to infinite, it opens the VCA when fully turned clockwise.

    • COARSE / FREQ :

Adjust the cutoff frequency of the filter.

    • DECAY SHAPE : ( Channel A / B )

Adjust the shape of the envelope of the respective channel, from exponential to linear to logarithmic.

The exponential envelope shape has a special mode named “Expo. release”, that slowly fades until never reaching zero volts when fully turned to the left. It gives a feeling of a more natural decay and acoustic imperfection of an acoustic drum kit ‘s room reverb and resonance.

    • MAIN IN DRIVE :

Adjust the amount of signal going into the main core of the module.

Starting with the EQ then the filter before it splits in the 2 channels.

    • SABOTAGE :

Adjust the amount of artifact applied to the circuit.

SABOTAGE's main goal is to disturb the behavior of the module by applying different type of distortion and by feedbacking the EQ session BASS and AIR back into channel A and B.

This function is highly dependent on the input and both channels level.

    • LEVEL AUX VCA  :  ( Channel A / B )

Attenuator for the IN LIN. input. ( Linear FM)

    • CV DECAY : ( Channel A / B )

Attenuator for the IN EXPO. input. ( Exponential FM)

    • FM :

Attenuverter for the FM input. To control the FREQ of the filter.

    • CV LEVEL : ( Channel A / B )

Attenuator for the IN CV VCA input, can also be used for amplitude modulation or to duck the output.

    SWITCHES :

    • HP/BP : Switch between two types of filter, “HP” for HighPass and “BP” for BandPass.

    • MODE : Changes the behavior of the envelope of the respective channel.

“ASR” is Attack Sustain Release and “AD” Attack Decay.

    • B FADE A / X / B CHOKE A :

B FADE A : Channel B acts as an inverted envelope follower lowering the amplitude of Channel A.

    X : Normal mode…what is “normal” anyway ?

B CHOKE A : The voltage coming out of Channel B mute any signal going out of Channel A until the end of its circle. Works better with short settings.

  • CONNECTIVITY :

    INPUTS :

    • POST FILTER IN ( Channel A / B ) : Post filter Audio input going directly to the respective channel.

    • TRIGATE ( Channel A / B ) : Input for GATE or TRIG of the respective channel. (Input A is normalized to B)

    • IN CV LEVEL ( Channel A / B ) : CV input for controlling the LEVEL of the respective channel.

    • IN CV DECAY ( Channel A / B ) : CV input for controlling the DECAY of the respective channel.

    • MAIN IN : Audio input, splitting the signal going to the EQ and the Filter, into channel A and B.

    • IN CV FREQ :

FM : Input to produce frequency modulation.

Xv/OCT : Input that can take volts per octave, really good for percussion, FM textures or even basslines, but not stable as a pure VCO if you are not tone deaf.

    OUTPUTS :

    • VOLTAGE OUT ( Channel A / B ) : Output the envelope of the respective channels A and B.

    • AUDIO OUT ( Channel A / B ) : Audio output of the respective channels A and B.

    • MIX A+B : Output for a compressed audio mix of channel A and B.
